COURSE OVERVIEW

CuraCore’s Veterinary Botanical Medicine Course, just like our other courses on laser therapy, medical manual therapy, and acupuncture, is founded on evidence-based, scientific methods. As the instructor, Dr. Narda Robinson teaches medical providers to use critical discernment to sift out the facts from fiction any time integrative therapy is used. This is especially vital when herbal medicine is involved because of potential harm that could result from products that are biochemically active.

This course directs individuals to view botanical medicine with an evidence-informed, scientific viewpoint so that they can offer their patients top-quality care. CuraCore’s purpose for this course is to give you a deeper awareness of the risks and benefits botanical treatments provide and how medical providers can use them safely and knowledgeably. This course is by no means a “how to” guide to push you toward using herbs exclusively with your patients. There are still many challenges to overcome until more evidence is found for target species.

For this veterinary program, you will need a concrete working knowledge of chemistry, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, and clinical manifestations of disease and health.   Have questions or need more information? Please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Cannabis for Veterinary Professionals

LEARN THE SCIENCE AND COMPLEXITY OF CANNABINOID MEDICINE.

Veterinarians face many questions when it comes to cannabis.  How does it work? Is it safe? What are the safeguards to regulate veterinary products?  Which regulations impact veterinarians’ ability to prescribe cannabis?  How does cannabidiol (CBD) differ from delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol in terms of clinical effects and toxicity? Where can I find reliable information online?

This course aims to educate veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and technicians about multiple aspects of cannabis treatment — recognizing its historical lineage, safety concerns, and proven ability to regulate endogenous analgesic and homeostatic processes.

The class is open to veterinary healthcare professionals as well as those from other professions that have a desire to learn more about the pharmacology and safety issues concerning cannabis. As such, prospective enrollees should read the following prerequisites carefully in order to ensure that they have a strong enough scientifically based education in order to grasp fundamental pharmacologic and clinical concepts.

Completion of this course does not grant the authority to prescribe any type of cannabis product, and participants should explore and understand local, regional, and national restrictions concerning cannabis that would apply to them and their practice, if applicable. Completion of this program does not grant any licensure or certification to practice medicine.

About the Instructor

Dr. Narda Robinson is a veterinarian and osteopathic physician, licensed to practice in Colorado and Ontario.  She is the President and CEO of the CuraCore Integrative Medicine & Education Centers in the US and Canada.  Dr. Robinson served on the faculty of the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences for nearly 20 years, focusing her teaching and research on the scientific basis of integrative medicine.  In 2015, she was invited by the President of CSU, Dr. Tony Frank, to explore the research potential of cannabis. She then participated on a university-wide committee that, in conjunction with the University of Colorado, helped to lay the groundwork for academic study of cannabis.  She co-authored a seminal survey on consumers’ perceptions of the value of hemp products for dogs.  The results from this study helped to stimulate and pave the way for clinical research on cannabis at CSU.  Dr. Robinson currently teaches online and onsite courses on cannabis that encourage scientific scrutiny and critical inquiry insofar as they relate to medical treatment and lawful practice.
