eMAV – All Online Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians
Dr. Narda Robinson began teaching medical acupuncture back in 1998 at Colorado State University because she saw the need for a comprehensive, in-depth medical acupuncture course based upon science and substance instead of myths and metaphors. The eMAV course includes three sections. Section I (30 hours online) teaches you the fundamentals of medical acupuncture based on neuroanatomy, neuromodulation, and myofascial engagement. Section II (30 hours online) covers ways to design clinically effective treatment protocols. Section III, the online Clinical Intensive (25 hours, including completion of one case report), gives you access to ten hands-on modules designed to build treatment skills and experience working with live animals. As an eMAV participant, you also receive an eMAV “kit” that contains sample acupuncture needles, an animal model, and push pins for point location practice. Access to an electroacupuncture unit is required. We recommend an ITO-130 which can be purchased from us or at lhasaoms.com if needed. eMAV graduates receive one FREE staff member enrollment in the 7.5 hour CE course, MAV for Technicians.
Approved for 85 CE credits through RACE/NYSED.
Payment (check or credit card) is due in full at time of registration.
*Veterinary students will need a licensed veterinarian to provide supervision when performing acupuncture. This will require about 30-60 minutes for the coached treatment session.

No-Travel “eMAV” Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians Certification Program, RACE/NYSED Approved
This course teaches you how to perform patients safe and effective acupuncture, whether you practice in a general, pain medicine and rehabilitation, specialty, or home-care setting. We educate you on the science and evidence of medical acupuncture to help you become a more effective practitioner. You learn new ways to address problems often seen in veterinary practice, such as:
- Post-surgical pain and ileus
- Chronic back and neck pain
- Intervertebral disk disease
- Immune dysfunction
- Joint pain and lameness
- Geriatric conditions
- Dermatologic problems
- Digestive disorders
The eMAV online program includes three sections. Section I (30 hours online) covers foundational material such as the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of acupuncture, acupuncture analgesia, and the ways in which medical acupuncture helps to resolve myofascial dysfunction. In Section II (30 hours online), we teach you how to assess patients for pain through observation and gentle myofascial palpation. We detail ways to develop comprehensive, science-based treatment protocols that address patients’ problems through neuromodulation and myofascial release. Section III (25 hours online) comprises the Clinical Intensive which involves live and/or recorded hands-on sessions, based on your preference; you receive instructor feedback each step of the way. You identify acupuncture point locations on an animal model and then a live animal of your choosing. You perform an observational analysis of movement and follow with myofascial palpation. You demonstrate how to work with the Ito ES-130 electroacupuncture device. You provide an actual treatment session at your location and receive coaching from an instructor (again, live or recorded, based upon your preference). You complete Section III with a point-finding session on a live animal (which typically only takes a few minutes over Zoom) and a case report, to be completed over the ensuing months.

Narda G. Robinson, DO, DVM, MS, FAAMA founded the field of veterinary medical acupuncture in 1998. She based her work, and her course, Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians (MAV), on information derived from lifelong study of the principles and practice of human and veterinary acupuncture, osteopathic medicine, and the art and science of neuromodulation. Her impact has spread worldwide, influencing both veterinary and human understanding of the science of acupuncture through works such as her landmark extensively researched 1215-page highly visual medical atlas, Interactive Medical Acupuncture Anatomy, published in 2016. Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians is a product of Dr. Robinson’s lifetime commitment to building and sharing her knowledge in the most dynamic and professional manner.
