The Biggest Myth About Integrative Veterinary Medicine – American Veterinarian

The Biggest Myth About Integrative Veterinary Medicine – American Veterinarian

Narda G. Robinson, DO, DVM, MS, FAAMA, president and CEO of CuraCore Integrative Medicine and Education Centers, says the biggest myth she sees about integrative medicine arises from Chinese medicine. There are entrepreneurial incentives to promote acceptance of an outdated ideology that was developed in a prescientific era, she explains. Dr. Robinson believes there is an appropriate compromise between Western medicine and a holistic approach.

Using Acupuncture in Veterinary Medicine – American Veterinarian

Acupuncture is one of the safest medical modalities, explains Narda G. Robinson, DO, DVM, MS, FAAMA, president and CEO of CuraCore Integrative Medicine and Education Centers. However, it is important to have a veterinary background when treating animals with acupuncture, because it is a medical approach, she adds. The most common uses for acupuncture are for musculoskeletal pain and neurologic conditions, Dr. Robinson says.

COURSE OVERVIEW
Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians Certification Program, RACE/NYSED approved

Narda G. Robinson, DO, DVM, MS, FAAMA founded the field of veterinary medical acupuncture in 1998.  She based her work, and her course, Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians (MAV), on information derived from lifelong study of the principles and practice of human and veterinary acupuncture, osteopathic medicine, and the art and science of neuromodulation.

Her impact has spread worldwide, influencing both veterinary and human understanding of the science of acupuncture through works such as her landmark extensively researched 1215 page highly visual medical atlas, Interactive Medical Acupuncture Anatomy, published in 2016.

      PHOTOMEDICINE for Veterinarians

The first section of PRIMA™  Photomedicine covers the physiologic basis of photobiomodulation, i.e., the manner in which the medical application of light, whether through laser or light emitting diodes (LEDs), influences living tissue.  Topics include photobiomodulation for tissue repair, analgesia, circulatory restoration, neuroprotection and neural regeneration, reduction of inflammation, and immune modulation.  Free of financial conflicts of interest, Dr. Robinson critically evaluates the pros and cons of various laser and LED units.

The second section of PRIMA™  Photomedicine calls upon learners to apply their knowledge from section I for the safe and effective treatment of pain, inflammation, nerve regeneration, and more.  We set the stage by establishing the scientific framework for the PRIM   A™  Photomedicine Method which integrates seamlessly with Dr. Robinson’s Medical Acupuncture and Integrative Neuromodulation® method.  In so doing, graduates of this program and, ultimately, PRIMA™  certified practitioners, will enjoy the flexibility of utilizing a spectrum of integrative medicine methods to tackle challenging disorders such as brain and spinal cord disease or injury, peripheral and cranial nerve problems, musculoskeletal injury, pain (neuropathic, inflammatory, and visceral), internal medicine problems, and the adverse consequences of radiation therapy.

Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians is a product of Dr. Robinson’s lifetime commitment to building and sharing her knowledge in the most dynamic and professional manner.

Throughout this program, you will learn ways to provide your patients safe and effective treatments, whether you practice in a general, pain medicine and rehabilitation, specialty, or home-care setting.

We educate you on the scientific support of medical acupuncture and related techniques can make you a more effective practitioner. Implementing scientific medical acupuncture and related techniques provide new avenues through which to address difficult and frustrating problems commonly seen in veterinary practice.

      Cannabis for Veterinary Professionals

LEARN THE SCIENCE AND COMPLEXITY OF CANNABINOID MEDICINE.

Veterinarians face many questions when it comes to cannabis.  How does it work? Is it safe? What are the safeguards to regulate veterinary products?  Which regulations impact veterinarians’ ability to prescribe cannabis?  How does cannabidiol (CBD) differ from delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol in terms of clinical effects and toxicity? Where can I find reliable information online?

This course aims to educate veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and technicians about multiple aspects of cannabis treatment — recognizing its historical lineage, safety concerns, and proven ability to regulate endogenous analgesic and homeostatic processes.

The class is open to veterinary healthcare professionals as well as those from other professions that have a desire to learn more about the pharmacology and safety issues concerning cannabis. As such, prospective enrollees should read the following prerequisites carefully in order to ensure that they have a strong enough scientifically based education in order to grasp fundamental pharmacologic and clinical concepts.

Completion of this course does not grant the authority to prescribe any type of cannabis product, and participants should explore and understand local, regional, and national restrictions concerning cannabis that would apply to them and their practice, if applicable. Completion of this program does not grant any licensure or certification to practice medicine.

Botanical Day 2020: Herbs for Pain & Inflammation

Persistent long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, opioids, and other pharmaceuticals poses safety concerns. The benefits and risks of both medications and botanical remedies must be considered when recommending pain-relieving treatments for chronic and degenerative pain conditions. This course covers the pathophysiology of several types of pain as well as the pharmacology of ten commonly-instituted phytomedicinal approaches. In this day-long program, you will learn what’s known and what’s not about these herbs, and onsite attendees will practice discussing the topic of plant-based products for pain and inflammation with fellow students that role play as clients..
